Washington, D.C., 19 April 2021. The Arctic Institute (TAI) is pleased to continue its partnership with the High North Center for Business & Governance to host the 2021 High North Dialogue (#HND21) at Nord University in Bodø, Norway. The High North Dialogue is an annual event that promotes sustainable development in the Arctic. HND2021’s theme “Business in the Arctic – The Perspectives of the Young” is continuing what was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year’s conference will be online to better facilitate dialogue between all participants.

The High North Center and The Arctic Institute drafted another agreement in which TAI members will help promote the conference and serve as moderators during panels. Upon conclusion of the event, TAI will work with the High North Center to draft a post-conference report. This year, Senior Fellow Andreas Raspotnik will host the conference and also moderate the session on Geoeconomics and Arctic development. He will be digitally supported by TAI’s Research Associates Pavel Devyatkin, Trym Aleksander Eiterjord, Karen-Marie Oseland and Visiting Fellow Emily Tsui.

“Ever since 2014, The Arctic Institute has been a key partner of the High North Center for Business and Governance,” Andreas Raspotnik said. “TAI supports the Center in organising, promoting, and carrying out the conference. Organising a digital conference has been particularly challenging but it provides for a great opportunity for people from all over the world to join us and discuss the economic future of the Arctic.“

Moreover, Malte Humpert—together with Andreas Raspotnik—will present findings of the AlaskaNor project, particularly with regard to the future collaboration potential between Alaska and North Norway in the field of maritime transportation, assessing and comparing traffic volumes and patterns in North Norway and Alaska and discussing how increased traffic from Russia’s Northern Sea Route presents opportunities for each region.

Established in 2011, The Arctic Institute is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. with a network of researchers across the world. The Arctic Institute’s mission is to help inform policy for a rapidly changing Arctic in the context of the climate crisis.
