Simone Minana

Simone Minana is a Research Intern at The Arctic Institute, working with TAI’s Editorial Team. Her areas of interest include Arctic security and defense cooperation, including the implications of Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO for the Nordic region, as well as critical security studies and Indigenous resource governance. Further, she is particularly interested in how the changing geopolitical landscape in the Arctic region affects Arctic governance and the various actors involved in it.

Simone recently graduated from University of Victoria, Canada, with a Master’s degree in Political Science. Her Master’s thesis analysed how the deterioration of Arctic politics, driven by a changed geopolitical perception of the Arctic region and worsened relations between Russia and the West, has impacted Indigenous peoples’ abilities to advance their own interests in Arctic decision-making processes. During her time at UVic, she also contributed to work on Indigenous resource governance in critical mineral projects in Greenland, Canada, and the US.

Currently, she is the political intern at the Danish Embassy in Norway. In addition to her Master’s degree, Simone holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Roskilde University, Denmark. Simone has previously lived and worked in Canada, Northern Norway and Greenland.
