Michel de Wall is a Research Associate at The Arctic Institute and manages TAI’s flagship weekly publication, The Arctic This Week (TATW).
Due to his training in anthropology, Michel is interested in doing research together with indigenous communities rather than writing about them. His academic interests include gender, decolonization, post- and neo-colonialism (especially in Greenland) as well as political and social changes in the Arctic
Michel holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology as well as Psychology from the University of Freiburg. His thesis on the relation between food practices and ethnicity was based on field research in West Greenland. He currently pursues a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Anthropology, trying to combine humanities and natural sciences.
Being a member of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and the International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA), he hopes to achieve this goal as well as sharpening his academic focus on the arctic while exploring the various topics of the circumpolar north.
In The Arctic Institute’s 2023 series “Queering the Arctic”, the impact and purpose on studying queer Arctic life has been discussed.
