The Arctic Institute returns to Iceland! Joins us at our Network North Session at this year’s Arctic Circle Assembly called “Global Geopolitics – Regional (In)Securities”.
Geopolitics and security are back on the Arctic agenda. Or have they ever left? What is the impact of global security dynamics on the Arctic? In this roundtable discussion, experts from The Arctic Institute will engage with the audience to help understand current and future security challenges and how to navigate global geopolitics and regional (in)securities.
The Arctic Institute’s mission is to help inform Arctic policy in the context of the climate crisis, and we believe that circumpolar decision-making must be based on interdisciplinary, inclusive research. With Network North, we aim to gather relevant stakeholders, researchers, politicians, and business representative to discuss key Arctic issues. As the climate crisis destabilizes traditional understandings of security in the Arctic, this breakout session – among many more – will aim to provide a discussion platform to understand how global security dynamics affects security, regional development, and social and Indigenous welfare in the Arctic. Focusing on the question of how global developments will affect the circumpolar north, this Network North event will cover different forms of security studies on global issues that affect the circumpolar north.
Each speaker will speak for 2-3 minutes, and the remainder of the session will be a discussion with the audience and a chance for policymakers, business representatives, and key stakeholders to engage with the latest research and ideas about the evolving understanding of security and insecurities in the Arctic.
From students to storytellers, diplomats to interdisciplinary researchers with an interest in the Arctic and naturally The Arctic Institute, all are welcome. Drinks will be served.
