Jay Lalonde is a Research Intern at The Arctic Institute. They contribute to The Arctic This Week’s Take Five, the Institute’s weekly news analysis publication.
Jay is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of New Brunswick. Jay holds a BA in Icelandic as a Second Language and an MA in Inter-American Studies from the University of Iceland. Their doctoral research focuses on nineteenth-century immigration and settlement policy in North America. They are also interested in contemporary iterations of settler colonialism and resource extraction throughout the Arctic, Icelandic Arctic policy, as well as how mobility and migration play out in the Arctic, especially in Inuit homelands divided among nation-states.
