Attending this year’s Polar Law Symposium in Hobart, Australia?
If so, join Romain Chuffart at the twelfth Polar Law Symposium on December 3, 2019 and listen to his presentation on The Expanding Role of Arctic Council Observer States: Implementing Japanese Arctic Policy in this New Context.
Japan is in a transitional stage in which its activities should be reconsidered after it announced its Arctic Policy in 2015. From 2015 to 2020, the Japanese government has been funding the Arctic Challenge for Sustainability (ArCS) project to play a role in shaping Arctic governance. As ArCS is coming to an end and due to gradual Arctic Council changes, this presentation will explore how Japan should reassess its involvement in order to fully implement its policy and to strengthen its engagement at the Arctic Council in the post-ArCS phase (2020-2025) and beyond.
Romain’s presentation will focus on reassessing Japan’s involvement in the Arctic in order to fully implement Japan’s Arctic policy and strengthen its engagement at the Arctic Council in the post-ArCS phase.
